How to trace a pension
If you don’t have a recent pension statement, the best way to find out your current pension value is to contact your pension provider. If you can’t remember who your pension provider is and you’re trying to trace a workplace pension, contact your former employer and they should be able to tell you who the provider is.
If you’re still struggling - perhaps because you can’t get hold of your previous employer - then you can try the Pension Tracing Service. This is a database of pension plans that allows you to search for your employer’s name, to see if there’s a record of their pension provider.
Using the Pension Tracing Service
You can contact the Pension Tracing Service in several ways. You can search the Pension Tracing Service’s database online or phone the service on 0800 731 0193.
Bear in mind that the Pension Tracing Service can only provide contact details for pension providers: it won’t tell you whether you’ve got a pension or how much your pension is worth. To find out confidential information about your pension you’ll need to contact your pension provider directly.
The online database is easy to search. You’ll be asked what type of pension you’re looking for before inputting the details of your employer or pension scheme. If either is in the database a selection of results will be displayed.
PensionBee can combine and transfer your old pensions
If you want to combine your pensions into a PensionBee plan, we’ll need a bit of basic information to start looking, including some of your personal details, the name of your old pension provider and your policy number (if you’ve got it at hand). The more information you can provide, the faster we can find and transfer your money. If you can’t provide any of this information, PensionBee won’t be able to locate your old pension.
Risk warning
As always with investments, your capital is at risk. The value of your investment can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you invest. This information should not be regarded as financial advice.
